Alumni News 52 SUMMER 20 14 Alumni Harry Ackley, ’55, died on April 10, 2013, at the age of 89 in Davis. He served as the Yolo County district attorney from 1966 to 1970. Gov. Jerry Brown appointed him to the Yolo County Superior Court in 1976, and he served on the bench until 1992. Raymond Ball, ’70, died at the age of 81 after a brief illness on July 27, 2013, in Carmichael. He practiced law for nearly four decades in the Sacramento area and was a business owner and the operator of the Law Offices of Raymond Ball. David Cenzano, ’98, LL.M., ’00, died at the age of 50 in a car accident in Bishop on July 4, 2013. He was a principal in the Law Offices of David A. Cenzano in Oxnard. Allen Cheek, ’78, died at the age of 64 on May 20, 2013, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. An Evening Division honors graduate, he practiced personal injury law for more than three decades in Fairbanks, Alaska. James Curry, ’75, died at the age of 69 on Jan. 9, 2014, in Browns Valley. A former partner at Curry, Vasquez and Hansen in Marysville, he was elected to the Yuba Superior Court in 1997 and served on the bench until his retirement in 2010. Edward Dannan, ’76, died at his home in Reno, Nevada, on Oct. 17, 2013, at age 67 from complications following cholangiocarcinoma surgery. A former deputy district attorney in Washoe County, he won election to the Reno Justice Court in 1992 and served 15 years on the bench. Job Johannes “John” de Bruin, ’70, died at the age of 74 on April 20, 2013, in Napa after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. An Evening Division student who worked for the state, he moved his family to the Napa Valley in 1977 to start a vineyard. There he also practiced real estate law, and was a Realtor, a broker and an investor in several businesses over three decades. Jerome H. (Jerry) Friedman, ’70, died on April 14, 2013. He was a practicing attorney in Benicia and Vallejo for more than 34 years and a judge pro tem for the Solano County courts. William Garrison, ’84, died at the age of 64 in Sacramento on Sept. 1, 2013. A Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War, he had a lengthy career in the construction business. Betty Irwin, ’74, died at the age of 90 on June 10, 2013. From 1976 to 1982, she was a deputy district attorney in Lake County before being elected to the South Lake Judicial Court in Lakeport where she served for more than a decade. Brian Kirchoff, ’79, died from a heart attack at the age of 63 in Marin County on April 14, 2013. A retired attorney, he worked for many years as regional counsel at the nonprofit Trust for Public Land in San Francisco. Eric Larsen, ’77, died of cancer at the age of 63 on May 8, 2013, in Sacramento. He was a longtime Sacramento real estate and estate planning attorney who operated a solo practice and was also a partner in three firms: Pinnell, Kingsley & Larsen; Larsen & Knopke; and Larsen & Chaffin. David A. Magnan, ’12, died on Aug. 29, 2013, after a long battle with cancer, at age 35. David is survived by his wife Mariela and their young daughter, Sophia. Magnan practiced law for Laughlin, Falbo, Levy and Moresi before falling ill. Joseph Martin, ’57, died on Aug. 12, 2013, at the age of 86 at his home in Ocean Park, Washington. IN MEMORIAM
